ABOUT JOE
Joe Hamel, Your Retirement Coach
Joe is the president and founder of Hamel Advisory Services. As an investment advisor representative of Portfolio Medics, he is held to a high professional standard and acts as a fiduciary when working with his clients’ investments, focusing on their best interest. As a fiduciary, Joe does not sell securities for commissions and ensures his clients are informed of the fees they are charged. Being a fiduciary means that he must act in his clients’ best interests at all times and also disclose and/or eliminate all potential conflicts of interest.
Joe got his start in the retirement planning field by becoming an insurance-only advisor in 1999 but saw how this model did not always allow him to best serve his clients. In July of 2007, he passed his Series 65 exam, allowing him to advise his clients on more than just insurance products.
It was at this time that Joe started offering investment advice through an independent Registered Investment Advisor. He knew that offering investment management services in this manner would allow him the freedom and diversity to offer his clients appropriate, suitable investments and the ability to act in his clients’ best interests. To Joe, his clients are always first.
Joe concentrates on educating his clients about the process of managing risk while investing. Many times, he finds clients in inappropriate or unbalanced situations, which are usually the result of either a lack of understanding or inappropriate investment advice. Joe takes pride in rebuilding financial plans for his clients, which can ultimately provide them with added peace of mind in retirement.
Joe also works with his clients to implement strategies that can provide income streams they cannot outlive and that can protect their nest egg from the various threats retirees may face, like probate court, long-term care spenddown, and estate taxes.
Joe is a member of the National Ethics Association, and his firm is a member of the Cleveland Better Business Bureau (A+). He is a graduate of Kent State University and lives in Medina with his wife of 35 years, Sondra, and four children (Ben, Jake, Luke, and Anna Grace). Joe and his family are members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina. He spends much of his free-time volunteering at his church, spending time with family, watching and rooting for all the Cleveland sports teams, exercising and enjoying his wife’s wonderful cooking.
